We love anything custom, and were immediately fans of Thundersley Home Essentials for their incredible range of home accessories. They first caught our eye because we're interested in anything Ralph Lauren Home is doing these days, and Thundersley Home Essentials recently made the outdoor cushions for Oceania Cruises' new Marina, the first luxury ship using the Ralph Lauren Home Collection.

Guess Who We're Lighting Up

Guess is opening a two-level, 13,000 square feet wonderland on Fifth Avenue - the brand's largest US store - and Suffolk Designer Lighting is excited to be lighting up the space with some of the most dramatic lighting we have supplied to date. . .

We're going to let Guess unveil the new space and let you see the gorgeous, over the top fixtures for yourself. Hint? WWD reported after an interview with Guess chairman Paul Marciano that they're going for glitzy chrome and mirrors - 70's disco glam! A little bit different from our usual client, but with access to over 400 manufacturers, we were delighted to showcase our range.

Congratulations to Guess and their grand expansion plans - three more stores are expected in New York City - Third Avenue, 34th Street, and the Flatiron District, as well as whispers of a lingerie and a home collection.

We are proud to introduce our valued team member, Daniel Bruno, who has been in the lighting industry for thirty-two years. Daniel specializes in high-end, electrical contracts and works with your team of architects and designers to draw up plans for your dream home.

"My focus is on large, high-end, custom homes," Daniel shares. "I work with my clients' crew on plans for architectural lighting, concealed lighting. . . whatever they can visualize, I can provide the materials and the know-how."

Meet Amanda Guglielmi

The Kreitsek Family continues to run Suffolk Designer Lighting, but we could not survive without our loyal, knowledgeable (and spunky!) team. We have worked with them for years - and many of our loyal clients know them well, too - but we're excited to start introducing them here to anyone who has not yet had the pleasure of being assisted by the best team in Southampton. Today we start with Amanda Guglielmi. . .

Amanda Guglielmi

Amanda may wear heels instead of a hard hat (although she's been known to sport the latter, and quite well!) and doesn't pull any punches: "Whatever you need, I can do. I have been in the lighting business for twenty-five years."

Amanda is sympathetic to clients who are building homes from scratch, and shares, "We see clients frustrated, exhausted, tapped out. There's a lot that goes into a custom home. . .I can walk in there and work with their team just to GC their punch list. . .do a walk through with their AV guy and talk him through how to put a dimmer on all the switches. I've been on projects with thirty men working under me. If they wonder what a woman knows about lighting, I am more than happy to tell them where to put the junction box."

We can't think of anyone - male or female - who will argue with a woman who lists Bumblee Manor, Shelter Island on her list of credentials. Which sections of it did she light up?

"All of it," Amanda responds calmly. "There is a difference between a salesperson and a designer. If you want a salesperson, you go to J.C. Penny."

You get it. She's amazing.

We love Amanda because she's brisk, efficient, incredibly capable, and perhaps the only person you want telling your crew where to put. . . the junction box. Amanda softens, though, as she mentions her daughter, Victoria, age 8: "Her teacher told me that Victoria says I'm the smartest, most powerful woman on the planet." Amanda laughs, but we think the little girl might be on to something. . .

Victoria, the Kreitsek family and the team at Suffolk Designer Lighting may have to politely concur. Eight-year olds can be bright lights, indeed, and your Mom just might be exactly how you describe her to be. . .

"I want to change every light in the church so the entire space is cast in golden hues."

What fun to go out with the merry boys at Visual Comfort, and run into a designer we both love and carry in our showroom! It doesn't matter if you've known each other for a minute or a decade - at High Point the common denominator is a mutual respect and dedication towards making homes beautiful. And Suzanne Kasler knows a thing or two about that. . .

A terrific write-up in House Beautiful details how Suzanne decorated builder Phil Clark's home in Atlanta. Her ability to pair seemingly unlikely textures - antiques with plexiglass, contemporary tripods with antiques - and make it all come together in a symphony of muted calm wins our respect. Her rooms are an oasis and a perfect blend of everything Suffolk Designer Lighting stands behind: a deep-rooted respect for quality and design, but always a nod to the future and a sprinkle of the unexpected.

Meeting Thomas O'Brien

You can imagine our excitement at meeting Thomas O'Brien after a day spent ordering close to his entire line at the C and D building. We've already featured Thomas here, but how cool to attach a face with a light!

Thomas could not have been more charming or delightful; he was equally excited to meet us! "Oh my god," he exclaimed, "I was driving by, and I was like, is that Suffolk Designer Lighting? 'Cause I never knew exactly where it was! I'm coming to visit!" Thomas, here is a map. . . we're like the Straits of Gibraltar to the Hamptons. You can't enter Southampton without passing us, and now we're holding you to it. Can anyone say Spring book signing?

We've carried his lights for a long time, and he's known about it. It was a little like meeting a facebook friend in real life; oddly thrilling, a little funny, and oh so High Point Market. People who say there's only furniture at the market forget that there are craftsmen and artisans and geniuses behind the objects we invest thousands of dollars in and bring into our homes.

Even a lamp begins somewhere, and meeting the men and women who create what they love for a living is a beautiful thing to those of us who admire craftsmanship in the modern age.

Fine Arts: On Legacy and Innovation

Fine Arts history dates back to the 19th century with a glass-making factory run by Max Blumberg. In 1941 his son Jack founded the company we know (and continue to be awed by) as Fine Arts. Founded in a tradition dating back to the craftsmanship of Renaissance Italy, we have come to expect only the best and most beautiful fixtures in their North Carolina showroom. . .and we go there repeatedly to bring them back to you.

It was a sentimental moment in the world of lighting as William (Billy) Kreitsek Jr. entered the showroom at High Point Market and met with Jack's son, Max Blumberg, and his brother Tommy. Max took over the company in 1965 and has kept the flames of a torch first lit by his grandfather, then carried onward by his father, flickering proudly till this day. A 400,000 square foot facility in Miami, 60 galleries all over the globe, and a commitment to only manufacture products in the United States of America are a testament to the kind of loyalty bloodline can carry.

Suffolk Designer Lighting is young by comparison, but there isn't a day Billy (and his siblings Kenneth and Karen) forget that they also stand at the threshold of a tradition set forth by their parents forty years ago. There are some kinds of pride - in quality, in customer care, in dedication to providing only the best - that can never be bought. They are simply borne.

Dolores Kreitsek helped found Suffolk Designer Lighting with her husband over 40 years ago, and what we love most about her is her ability to recognize the importance of some youth and fun amongst all the elegant fixtures we have in our Southampton showroom. "Don't forget to bring some color in," she reminded us before we left for North Carolina. "Some zesty, vibrant spashes of color!"

We're Lighting Up A Church

He's been known to test the limits - with art, music videos, film, commercials - and David Foote's next exhibition promises to be no exception.

This time we are proudly helping this bold talent light up St. John's Lutheran Church for his Madonna and Child series. It's going to be spectacular.

The art is one of a kind. A labor of love, of madness, of imagination, of a vision hearkening back to a Vermeer, or even a Giotto. . . and yet even the Moma would be hard pressed to define this exhibition or have it fit in with a pre-existing genre. That's because it doesn't. It's art history crashing into the future and light burns from the canvas and the brushstrokes crackle.

We're more than happy to illuminate quietly from the sidelines.

Each one is more breathtaking than the next - trust us, we've gotten a peak.

Being asked to light up 995 Fifth Avenue is to be asked to become an intrinsic part of New York City's history. Lord Rothschild originally commissioned famed architect Rosario Candela in 1926 to design the building that would be known as the Stanhope hotel. The elegant Georgian was known for its classic grandeur and breathtaking views of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park.

The building underwent a substantial renovation spearheaded by Extell Development Company and reopened as 995 Fifth, offering 26 of the most stunning residences Manhattan has to offer; the Corcoran Group Marketing has the exclusive for all sales and marketing. Suffolk Designer Lighting was asked to do all the lighting for the entrance, lobby, common spaces, hallways, and select private residences.

And yet, no matter how pleased we were with the end results, the view of the Manhattan skyline across the street from 995 Fifth keeps us humble.

When CBS Style correspondent Katrina Szish decided to light up her Manhattan digs, we just had to be a part of it. . . the blonde beauty has incredible style, and we have no doubt the apartment is going to be spectacular. Check out her sizzling sizzle reel here.

William Kreisek Jr. met up with Katrina at Kastel, the new lounge at Trump Soho where she was hosting a fashion week party. (Check out the hotel if you haven't - both Kastel and Bar D'Eau are incredible spaces.)

Katrina visited our showroom the next weekend to pick out her fixtures - she had no idea we also carry furniture and we were delighted to take her orders.

We're pretending to be patient, but we have to admit just this once we cannot WAIT to see the finished product. Lighting is our business, but seeing how our fixtures enhance your homes is the ultimate joy. Where else but Bridgehampton for a little Roman holiday? Todd Rome, president of Blue Star Jets, asked us to help out with both the interior and exterior of his Hamptons home.

A chic lantern in an unexpected space. . . double murano glass chandeliers above the dining table, and an exquisite decor. It was an honor to light up the Rome summer residence, and quite exciting for us to see our lights featured in Erin's beautiful blog, House of Turquoise.

As we move into fall our showroom may remain in Southampton, but we will happily meet any of your lighting needs across the country. We were so delighted to work with Emmy Award winning actress Susan Lucci as she lit up her beautiful ocean front property. Our concentration in her home was on supplying all the magnificent outdoor lighting.

Sometimes a post comes along and it surpasses eye candy - it just tickles our soul in delight. In one, deft sweep our friend David Patrick Columbia managed to create one of the best glimpses of a home we've seen (sorry, Elle Decor, sometimes even you get trumped) and then, to top it all off, it features all our favorite people and life pursuits - designer Antony Todd! Gallery owner Gerald Bland! Dogs! Books! And of course, Suffolk Designer Lighting featured designer Eric Cohler. We may faint. The baroque styled console table immediately caught our eye, and then hardly surprising - it comes from Gerald Bland's eponymous gallery on 91st and Madison. If you haven't visited this Carnegie Hill gem, you are truly missing out on one of the most sublime design experiences to be had in New York City. NYSD never misses a thing, so obviously Gerald has an equally impressive write-up, too - take a peep here.

It began as all fairy tales do, with a vision of a room in ice blue and a love for the hauntingly beautiful tale by Hans Christian Anderson:

The snowflakes grew larger and larger, till at last they looked just like great white fowls. Suddenly they flew on one side; the large sledge stopped, and the person who drove rose up. It was a lady; her cloak and cap were of snow. She was a tall and slender figure, and of a dazzling whiteness. It was the Snow Queen. . .

But obstacles were abundant. . . cement ceilings and an antiquated wiring system in a Manhattan pre-war building had kept our client from indulging in this magnificent chandelier. We're so glad she called us. We believe that the right lighting can transform a space. . .

We believe in the power of reflection. . .if it's the Metropolitan Opera chandelier, two mirrors are even better than one! Sometimes, excess is necessary.
